The previous generation used the dedicated DEEPSONIC AI chip to separate speech from surrounding noise in real time. EON Sphere builds on that approach with its new HYPERSONIC AI chip and updated processing.

Phonak states that Spheric Speech Clarity 3.0 provides all-around speech clarity and is designed to make conversations easier to follow in noisy environments. This is particularly relevant for restaurants, group conversations, and situations where speakers are not directly in front of you.

EON Adds a New AI Processing Architecture

EON Sphere does not simply update the software inside the Infinio platform. It introduces a new processing architecture. The EON platform uses the ERA chip, while Sphere models add the dedicated HYPERSONIC chip for neural sound processing. This separation allows the hearing aid to handle general sound processing and wireless functions while the additional processor works on speech separation.

EON also moves from AutoSense OS 7.0 to AutoSense OS AI 8.0, which is designed to adjust the hearing experience automatically according to the listening environment. For people who frequently move between quiet and noisy settings, these changes can support a more responsive listening experience.

The EON Sphere Is Smaller and Lighter

Another noticeable difference is physical design. Phonak reports that the new EON Sphere is 25% smaller and 20% lighter than the previous Sphere generation. The company also reports a 37% improvement in efficiency and a slimmer profile. For a hearing aid worn throughout the day, changes in size and weight can matter just as much as changes in processing technology.

A smaller device may feel less noticeable behind the ear and can be appealing to people who prioritize a discreet appearance. The EON Sphere is still designed for mild to profound hearing loss, so the smaller housing does not mean it is intended for a narrower range of hearing needs.

Connectivity Now Includes Auracast

Infinio Ultra Sphere already offered universal Bluetooth connectivity, allowing users to connect to compatible devices for calls, music, and other streamed audio. EON Sphere carries that connectivity forward while adding support for Auracast broadcast audio. Auracast allows compatible hearing aids to receive audio broadcasts directly from supported public spaces.

This could eventually be useful in places such as theaters, lecture halls, museums, gyms, and other shared venues. The important distinction is that Auracast availability depends on whether a location has compatible broadcast equipment. EON is therefore ready for this developing technology, but not every public venue can provide an Auracast signal yet.

Battery Life Has Changed With the Smaller Design

Battery performance is one area where the specifications do not represent a straightforward upgrade. Phonak lists up to 56 hours of battery life for the Infinio Ultra Sphere, while the EON Sphere is rated for up to 38 hours. Actual runtime varies according to hearing loss, environmental sound, streaming, and other activated features.

In other words, the newer model is smaller and lighter, but its published maximum battery life is lower. That may be an important consideration for current Infinio Ultra Sphere users who regularly rely on long periods between charges. Your daily streaming habits and listening environment should be considered when deciding whether the newer platform suits your routine.

Is EON Sphere Worth the Upgrade?

For someone already using Infinio Ultra Sphere, upgrading is not automatically necessary. The better question is whether the changes address a listening challenge you still experience. EON Sphere offers newer speech-processing technology, AutoSense OS AI 8.0, a smaller and lighter design, and Auracast support.
